How To Create a Blog
Create a Blog With Wordpress
A Blog is a place where you collect and share things that you find interesting. Or you can just organize your own thoughts. Blogs are another kind of website. The most recent content/post is usually displayed first and the content is organized by date and category.
For example: the content on this website is organized by content and not by date. This is static website.
Blogs may be easier to set up than websites, but that doesn't mean you should jump and think that blogs are better option than websites.
Blogs also requires work, patience, an understanding of Internet marketing and Search Engine Optimization - SEO (getting ranked high in Bing, Google, Yahoo, etc.). Before you decide if you want blog or website, you should know how you want your content to be organized by default.
It is good to know that blogs can be limited compared to a website. By limited I mean in terms of design and data manipulation. So please, first learn basics about how are blogs coded.
Blog vs. WebsiteCan't Decide? Blog or Website?
Blog or a Website... which one should I have? - it really is a valid question... This is a question which I asked myself many times before I started creating my own website.
First of all... Blog is a Website. In fact, I would say that blogs are "dynamic" websites. You can create a blog with some of the great blog software on the market today.
For example: you can download free blog software from WordPress.org. Wordpress has become powerful Content Management System (CMS) and more and more people are creating their websites using that kind of software even If they don't want to blog.
If you are undecided what you want Blog or a Website than you can create a mini website (with less than 10 pages) and then you can add a blog to it with subdomain (example: blog.yoursite.com).
How To Start Blogging?Blog Hosting Options
You have two options to host your blog.
The first option is Remotely Hosted - which means your content/files literally sit on the server of the blogging platform (WordPress.com, Blogger.com, etc.)
If you choose to host your blog remotely, you need to know there is always a risk involved. Because if Blogger or WordPress decide to shut down your blog down (for whatever reason), you would lose all your content.
It also doesn't look as professional to have a blog address like http://yourblog.blogspot.com or http://yourblog.wordpress.com. And if you want to make money, first impressions mean a lot. I also think hosting and domain names are so cheap these days that it's worth spending a few extra dollars to own your content and have a real blog address like http://yourblog.com - especially if you want to make money whit it.
The second option is Self Hosted - which means, all your content/files sits on the hosting account that you own. Your blog address is more professional and easy to remember because you can have a true domain like http://yourblog.com.
WordPress or Blogger Platform? Which Is Best?
Blogger Platform - is owned by Google Inc. It can be used as either a free blog account, or with a hosted domain. Blogger has lots of built-in options for templates and changing the colour, photos, layout, etc. But you are limited by the inability to access the theme code - while you may be able to easily pick a different background colour, you are unable to change some of page layout basics.
Whit Blogger you are not allowed to add pages. There is only one main page allowed for each blog site, along with an “about me” page that is hosted on the main Google URL and pulls information from your account.
Wordpress Platform - can be used as either a free blog account, or with a hosted domain. You can choose from over a hundred gorgeous themes ranging from professional to fun to crazy, and you can switch themes instantly with just a click of a button. You are allowed to customize your sidebar using widgets, and several themes let you upload your own photo or image for the header bar.
WordPress offers you their stats system. It can give you up-to-the-minute stats on how many people are visiting your blog, where they’re coming from, which posts are most popular, and which search engine terms are sending people to your blog. It’s also available as a plug-in for self-hosted WordPress.
You can create as many blogs as you want. The only limitation is your imagination. You can create group blogs with multiple authors who are allowed to post or contribute. This is great for topic blogs for things like books or politics, or just a blog for you and your friends in one place.
